哈特(Joseph Hart, 1712-1768)是个生活放荡的青年，早年竭力反对神，而且引人与他同行。他也跑教堂，但目的在于挑毛病。
　　 有一次，听约翰卫斯理(John Wesley, 1703-1791)讲罗马书第八章32节，由于他是语文教员，自恃能舞文弄墨，竟然写了一本小册子反驳：“宗教的不合理性”(The Unreasonableness of Religion)。他自认是：“不受约束的退后者，无耻的罪魁，卤莽大胆的叛徒。”
　　 到了四十五岁那年，他发觉自己其实是信有神，只是像许多同路人一样，只是为了自傲，不肯承认；他的良心受到责备，畏怯的真相全显露出来。有一段时间，他不敢睡觉，怕的是一觉醒来，身在地狱。他周游各教会，但总是觉得被定罪。
　　 最后，他进入伦敦的莫拉维福音堂，听到了盼望的信息。那是有人在传讲启示录第三章10节，呼召人接受基督为主为救主。他回家后，跪下祷告，皈信基督。那反对基督的扫罗，成为爱主的保罗；迫害教会的笔，为主所使用。他笔的事奉，结了不少果子。
　　 三年后，哈特成为伦敦耶文街会堂(Jewin St. Chapel)的牧师，传扬与神和好的福音。
　　 哈特出版了心琴集(Heart Harp)，其中的一首“罪人请来”(Come Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy)，两个半世纪来，仍然为人所喜爱歌唱，因为那是过来人的心声。
　　 只是他的事奉，不过短短的十年。1768年五月二十四日，蒙恩的罪人哈特，离开世界，去见他的主：不再恐惧审判，而是快乐回到父家，得到接纳和永远福乐。

樊得璧 Cornelius Vanderbilt

　　许多骄傲刚硬的罪人，在这歌声和音乐的感动下，谦卑下来，承认自己的罪，接受主拯救的恩典。

　　 一百多年后，八十三岁的樊得璧(Cornelius Vanderbilt, 1794-1877)缠绵在病床上，已经到了灯枯油尽的地步。他是当时美国最富有的人，也是世界上的首富。可是他没有预备好去见造他的主。他的家人聚集环绕在他身边，唱“罪人贫穷软弱可怜”这首诗。知道自己灵魂真实的情形，是得恩的机会。
　　 一个悔改罪人笔下流露的心声，成为许多人蒙恩的阶梯。
